Koko and his girlfriend Karyn would often walk past Apo Liverpool during its construction, wondering who would be lucky enough to live there. A few years later, they are the lucky ones.

“Before we moved to Apo, we were living in Wigan. While this was convenient for our jobs, we found life there a bit too quiet and not what we wanted as young professionals. We’d seen Apo being built, so in December 2022, we decided to move. It was the ideal home for us and our cavapoo, Kingsley.

We love the vibe at Apo and the whole place is perfect for us. We both now work remotely – I work as a UX designer and Karyn is in marketing – so the communal areas are ideal if one of us is on a call. One of them is air-conditioned too which is great on hot summer days.

We also use these spaces to meet up with friends and other residents we’ve gotten to know. They are never too busy, and whether for work or leisure, you’re always guaranteed to get a seat. There’s a real sense of community, and it’s great when you’re sitting on the roof terrace and someone comes up and says ‘hi’. We also love having a gym onsite, which we both use regularly. They offer ‘ladies only’ times too, making it accessible to everyone.

The Apo staff are really friendly and truly care about the residents. They organise a range of social events throughout the year, like chocolate and crafts at Easter and resident drinks, so we often meet new people as well as some of the friends we’ve already made.

I’m originally from Zimbabwe but have lived all over the UK. I’ve always loved Liverpool – it’s got an amazing energy about it and Apo’s location is ideal. When we were in Wigan, it was always 45 minutes to the centre of Manchester or Liverpool if we wanted to go out, and we had to plan trains or taxis to get home. At Apo, we don’t have to worry about any of that!

Having such a vibrant city right on your doorstep means there’s always something new to try – Bingo Lingo at Box Park is next on the list. We love going out for brunch or drinks, and the city has an amazing array of places. We also love being right on the docks, which is ideal for walking Kingsley.

We have a one-bedroom flat that we furnished ourselves. The space is great and the view across the Mersey is wonderful. At some point, however, we will be looking to upgrade to a two-bedroom flat – hopefully at Apo.”
